Day two, here are some more of the sounds that have made my 2016 go down a treat. These songs include a comeback for one of my favourite female singers, a superb cover and the return of rock royalty!
- Emeli Sande – Hurts
After a long break, Emeli Sande finally makes her comeback. ‘Hurts’ was the first song for nearly four years, and that is a long time away from the industry. The track though is definitely a great return from one of the best artists of the 21st century. ‘Hurts’ is catchy, engrossing and breath-taking. Also, the new album is definitely worth your time.
- Calum Scott – Dancing On My Own
Yes, this is a cover. It is a damn good cover though! Robyn is one of my favourite female singers of all time. Truly one of the greatest performers I have ever seen and I honestly thought nobody could do her songs justice. But now, there is one who has managed to do just that. Calum Scott made a great impression in the 2015 series of Britain’s Got Talent, and his sombre yet powerful cover of ‘Dancing On My Own’ is definitely a treat for the ears.
- Bon Jovi – This House Is Not For Sale
‘This House Is Not For Sale’ is definitely one of the punchiest songs of the year. Bon Jovi have unfortunately made some less than stellar tracks in the 21st century, but this is one of the better ones. The title track to the new album, it has a classic feel to it from its first listen. The track is a lot of fun, it shows that the band has got a lot of life left without Richie Sambora. Make sure this is in your collection for 2016!
- Green Day – Bang Bang
Another big band now, and these guys are the real McCoy! Green Day proved earlier this year that they can still take the charts by storm, and the latest album REVOLUTION RADIO is definitely a treat for fans old and new. ‘Bang Bang’ truly is a great hit, it is surging with punk power and represents the band as a well-aged machine. Over 20 years of hits and Green Day are not slowing down!
- Canvas Wall – Come And Get It
The lads from Malta made a huge comeback in 2016 with the much anticipated Mannekind EP. Four years on from their debut album, Canvas Wall create yet another brilliant set of songs. ‘Come And Get It’ is indeed a song which grabs you from the first moment, and warrants a replay as soon as it reaches its conclusion. The track will probably be best experienced live, so watch out for these guys in 2017 at a venue hopefully near you.
10-6 coming tomorrow, getting closer!
