Today it has been all but announced that Deathstroke is to be part of the DC Extended Universe and will likely be making his debut in 2017’s Justice League (or maybe that Batman solo movie is coming quicker than we thought. A win either way!). Where we may not yet know the actor who will be portraying the assassin (Keanu Reeves would be great. I know many may not think so, but after John Wick, he is the perfect choice!), we do know that he will be more than a match for Batman when he does make his big-screen debut. The DC universe has got a huge rogues gallery which they can borrow from to bring some truly colourful characters to life. These are six that, as of writing, have not been confirmed for the DCEU. But I hope they will be coming soon…
Jason Todd/The Red Hood
Now that we have a new Joker, a new Batman and a “deceased” Robin, we do need to get this story going. I will mention this would probably be similar in vein to Captain America: The Winter Soldier where an ally becomes an antagonist. Jason Todd would also be a great way to introduce the Lazarus Pit, Ra’s Al Ghul and give a few hints towards the Justice League Dark movie! Having a villain who knows Batman’s moves and secrets would create a true nemesis to the caped crusader. Also, this would work towards an R-Rated (15 rating in UK) delight of a film.
Who should play Jason Todd: Matt Smith (Doctor Who) or Jensen Ackles (Supernatural)
Leonard Snart/Captain Cold
Now hear me out on this one! Yes, Mr Freeze was a pretty rubbish character on the big-screen and put a lot of people off him. Captain Cold however, is definitely a well needed nemesis for The Flash. Usually a part of The Rogues in Central City, Captain Cold is incredibly smart and dangerous. One of the few villains without powers to face The Flash, versions of the character have managed to learn Barry Allen’s identity and trick him numerous times. Maybe not a primary antagonist, but am sure he will do a great job putting the scarlet speedster on ice (I promise only one ice joke is allowed).
Who should play Captain Cold: Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises)
Catwoman is indeed a vital character for the DCEU, but why? Selina Kyle has been someone who has not only been both a hero and villain, but a friend and foe and lover to the Dark Knight. Catwoman may be portrayed as a generally conflicted person who loves to steal, but she does have a heart. Previous portrayals have seen her generally taking revenge and being a professional thief, this one would be great to really explore the relationship between herself and Batman. Maybe she knows Bruce is Batman and that she wants to help him, though she still loves crime. Fingers crossed.
Who should play Catwoman: Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road, Monster)
Now I am putting together these two, but it can work. Dr Thomas Elliot (Hush) was a friend of Bruce Wayne’s when they were younger, he would then go on to a life of crime and was very good at mimicking people to perfect accuracy. Clayface is also a person who can perfectly mimic people, though that is because of a mutation to his body which allows him to mould himself to any shape or form that is required. To see Batman face off with a master of disguise would truly make for a great film. Again, someone who would know Bruce well could truly make for a psychological fest.
Who should play Clayface: Kevin McKidd (Trainspotting, Journeyman)
If you are going to have a villain to go up against Superman, you need someone who can truly give him a challenge. Brainiac certainly does push the Man Of Steel to the edge! There are a few different iterations of the character, and to see one that had a strong connection to Krypton would certainly play a fun part to his film. He would know a lot about Kal-El and it would be fun to see him possibly taking control and manipulating friends and family of Superman. Brainiac has been a vital part to many of the top stories of Superman, and am sure this could be Man Of Steel 2’s antagonist!
Who should play Brainiac: Doug Jones (Hellboy, The Flash)
This is a villain which not only would be on a truly epic scale, but there is a lot of groundwork to lay before this guy appears. Trigon is a powerful demon, he is effectively the personification of evil. Trigon was introduced as the father of Teen Titan member Raven, and to have the Teen Titans in the fold of the DCEU would certainly help work towards this mammoth clash. If Trigon wasn’t a big enough threat, his three sons (Jesse, Jared and Jacob) are able to introduce the seven deadly sins into people and can manipulate Raven to their side. This would need Darkseid out the way, a Teen Titans movie, a good amount of teasing and then…BOOM! Trigon takes the DCEU and makes it his bitch!
Who should play Trigon: Reg E. Cathey (The Wire, Outcast)
