The 2015-2016 TV season is to bring two new big comic book shows to our screens. While Netflix is continuing to expand on the MCU with Marvel based Television, DC continues to grow. While Supergirl is with CBS and may or may not cross over with the established CW shows, we know that Legends of Tomorrow will bring characters from both The Flash and Arrow as well as introduce new characters not previously seen. So let’s weigh these up with five rounds to see which show is definitely the more exciting.
ROUND ONE: SYNOPSIS
DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow: Rip Hunter travels back in time to the present day where he brings together a team of heroes and villains in an attempt to prevent an immortal from destroying the world and time itself.
Supergirl: Twenty-four-year-old Kara Zor-El, who was taken in by the Danvers family when she was 12 after being sent away from Krypton, must learn to embrace her powers after previously hiding them. The Danvers teach her to be careful with her powers, until she has to reveal them during an unexpected disaster, setting her on her journey of heroism.
It is fair to say that Supergirl offers more of a premise than a synopsis for the show. Where someone like Supergirl will arguably have a more epic origin than many characters we would normally see, haven’t we seen this thing countless times before? I won’t say time travel is original, even for DC. But, to see a lot of focus on an as-yet-unseen character is rather fun. Where we already seem to know so much about Kara Zor-El, I would argue hardly anyone knows Rip Hunter. Legends Of Tomorrow take the first round.
ROUND TWO: DC ROOTS
We have a tricky one here. Where Legends Of Tomorrow will have many characters from Arrow and The Flash coming together, the new Supergirl has already announced 80’s Supergirl Helen Slater will be joining the cast as will former Superman Dean Cain. Even though we finally get to see Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) Atom take a lead, just for the geek level on previous super-powered beings pre 2000, Supergirl takes the win here.
ROUND THREE: SCI-FI ROOTS
We already established some cast members for Supergirl (Dean Cain and Helen Slater); also David Harewood has guested and starred in many shows. But, Legends Of Tomorrow has Victor Garber who has been in Alias, Stargate Universe and will return as his character Dr. Martin Stein from The Flash. Also who can ignore the fact Doctor Who actor Arthur Darvill will be taking a lead role as Rip Hunter! Also we get to see Hawkgirl finally on the screen! Legends Of Tomorrow take round three.
ROUND FOUR: FUTURE
OK, neither of these shows have yet aired. But, we should be ready for what will happen. Arguably, Legends Of Tomorrow does sound more like a limited series, and it may very well will be. Supergirl, if it goes well, could possibly see itself fall into the same universe as Arrow, The Flash and maybe Legends Of Tomorrow. We could see a great story ark emerge and multiple seasons. I unfortunately can’t see the same happening for Legends. Supergirl wins it.
FINAL ROUND: THE TRAILER
Well, trailers have come out for both! They both look brilliant, but which one do you think is best? Check them out now…
