7 days to go till Doctor Who is back on our screens. But I want to take you back to September 2013, as this is when one of the most creative videos was released to Youtube. Billy Henshaw put together a Doctor Who opening sequence, he is described as “…a motion graphics professional, working on TV commercials and corporate presentations mostly”. His work is very nicely displayed in these titles which uses more of a time aspect to the Doctor Who opening and is definitely a treat to see. A new original concept to take over from the usual vortex visuals, check it out here! Once you have watched it, I can then tell you why Billy has a reason to celebrate.
Ok, so this video has been up for nearly a year now and it has had a lot of recognition. This week it was announced that Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat had seen these titles and was so happy with them he spoke to Billy Henshaw about incorporating them into the Series 8 opening titles. So, on Saturday 23rd August when you sit to watch series opener ‘Deep Breath’, remember you can thank Billy for bringing what Steven Moffat calls “…the only new title idea I’d seen since 1963”. So, this is when the fans win, well one of them at least. Bring on next weekend!
